Nuclear/Advanced Manufacturing

Chalk River at Night

The Deep River Area has been at the centre of the Canadian Nuclear Industry since the industry began over sixty years ago. The first controlled Nuclear reaction in the world outside of the United States occurred here when the Zero Energy Experimental Pile (ZEEP) reactor went critical for the first time at the Chalk River Laboratories of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited on September 5, 1945. This area has been home to world leaders in Nuclear Technology development and research ever since.
